Pro-Choice

Next Sunday is Super Bowl. I, like most of you, watch the ads as much if not more than the game. This year will be unique in terms of advertising. Tim Tebow's mom will be talking about the choice she made some years ago. The choice to give life to her son. The choice to continue a pregnancy that could have cost her a life. The choice that went against the judgement of her doctors. The choice her son is grateful every day she made. It does not matter to me that Tim is a Heisman trophy winner. It matters that he is alive today because his mother chose life.

The people in the pro-choice movement would have you believe that they are all about giving women a choice. That is an absolute lie. If that were true there would be no outrage over the message that CBS is planning to air on Sunday. How could they be upset that a woman made the choice to give her baby life? They are about women killing their babies. It is that simple folks. That is the only choice acceptable to these people. I cannot comprehend being upset about celebrating life. Ms. Tebow made the brave and right decision to have her wonderful son and they are upset about that???? I am not able to make sense of this. The only explanation must be that killing babies is a thing to celebrate. Yes, I am preaching and yes I am on a soapbox. I cannot help it. Life is always something to praise and be thankful about. Babies are not an inconvience or a mistake. Pro-choice groups also seem to forget that adoption is also a legitamate choice. Pro-choice actually means pro-abortion, but that just doesn't have the same warm fuzzy ring to it now does it?

Coakley VS. Brown

Tomorrow is a big day for the state of Massachusets. Ted Kennedy held his Senate seat for 40 years in the notoriously left leaning state. Coakley is the heir apparent to this seat. Not so fast say the Republicans and Independents. Scott Brown is running a brilliant campaign by making the most of recent senate failures. 20% of people who voted for Obama in Mass. are now supporting Brown. Even a last ditch campaign stump from the messiah himself is not helping Ms. Coakley. Is this truly surprising? If you listen to government controlled media, then the answer is yes. For the rest of us, who get our news from independent sources, we are not surprised at all.

Obama's first year in office has been nothing short of a bad joke. The economy is still in ruins, the government is now in the business of owning car companies, retail prices are rising, and oh yeah there is also that health care thing. Until 2012 the only way to fight back is with senate and house elections. First Virginia and New Jersey now Massachusets. We are a country built on liberty and freedom. Most of us do not want bigger government or higher taxes. The spirit of the American people refuses to be crushed. We will not sit back and let anyone turn us into a socialist nation. I predict a win for freedom tomorrow and many more to follow in November.

Sarah Palin My Hero

So I have not posted in awhile and I have been struggling with what to write. There are so many things going on right now that it is hard to choose something. I finally decided to go with Sarah Palin. She is now the former governor of Alaska and a former VP candidate. She is still a wife, mother, grandmother and one of my heroes.

She burst onto the scene late last August when McCain announced her as his running mate for the 2008 election. Until that moment it was a most boring campaign. A washed up war hero with a less than conservative record trying to run because it was "his turn." Sarah changed all that. She gave us a reason to get excited. She gave us a reason to feel the fire and passion many conservatives felt was so lacking in the '08 campaign. She was a straight talker, a down home girl, and a "true believer." When McCain lost that election I can guarantee that most of us were mourning the loss for Sarah Palin not John McCain. She quietly receded into the background to continue her job as one of this countries most popular governor's.

The left wing and the media in this country had other ideas for her. They continued to hound her about her daughter having a child out of wedlock, her son being born with Downs Syndrome(according to the left he should not have been born at all), her style of dress and make-up, and anything else they could come up with. She began to be plagued with baseless accusations that forced her to seek expensive legal representation. She was taunted by David Letterman, and thrown under the bus by some of McCain's own staffers. Yet, she always acted with dignity and grace under this enormous amount of pressure. She finally made the difficult decision to step down as governor rather than deplete her family's money fighting against all the wrongful accusations. That was a classy move. The speech she gave when she left office was nothing short of amazing. She called the media on their obvious bias and lies. She told her state to resist the pull of big government. She stated that big government does nothing but take away the individuals desire to succeed and be productive. Ladies and Gentlemen we need this woman. I respect her decision to take a step back and focus on family for awhile, however I hope she comes back for 2012.

The left was so vicious towards her because they fear her. They saw the passion she ignited. They saw the way she related to the average worker trying to provide for his family. She doesn't need a teleprompter to share her ideas. She speaks from the heart because she is one of us. She is not an Ivy League graduate or a Washington insider. This woman has the potential to change the party and bring us back to power. Please come back some day Sarah, we need you to save our country.

Does Character Matter?

Recently the headlines have been full of political figures falling from grace. Senator Ensign from my home state of NV admitted to an almost year long affair with a staffer. Governor Mark Sanford disappears for a tryst with his mistress in Argentina. Ahhhh how the mighty seem to always fall. News of people in politics having affairs is not new or particularly newsworthy, so then why are we all so fascinated? The saga of former President Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky, and the now infamous blue dress kept the nation captivated for months. Does anyone know where that blue dress is now?? It divided the country between those who thought it was none of the public's business and those who wanted every last lurid detail. We are a country of voyeurs by nature. Scandals and drama make us squeal in delight and keep magazines like People in business. We secretly know that we would never stoop to such levels and are morally superior to them.

The truth is these people are much different than the rest of us. I will tell you why. Most of us have no desire to sacrifice our families, our livelihood and everything we believe in to become a politician. But wait, you say, didn't they start out with the intention to run on principles and ideals? Don't these people truly think they will make a difference when they get elected? Maybe some of them do believe that in the beginning. However, power corrupts and that is a fact. It can and has been known to ruin some of the most idealistic people. People who get into politics have an almost insatiable need for love and approval. They seek the spotlight. They need the adoration and affection that can come from a mistress. The approval of their family and colleagues becomes not enough. In truth no amount of kudos from anyone would satisfy them. Now, I know I sound extremely cynical and I guess I am. I would venture to say that politicians who are faithful to their spouses are the exception rather than the rule. The cheaters are present on both sides of the aisle. The party of ethics and morals? Who would that be? I do not have an answer to that.

So now we come to the question of does all of this bad behavior in their personal lives really matter? YES!! Of course it does. Why? Because people in the public eye live in a fishbowl. They should be held to a certain standard. If they cannot keep their marriage vows sacred what does that say about their ethical standards? Do they take their oath of office as seriously and their vows? If so, then we have a problem. Where do they stand on taking bribes and fast tracking bad legislation? Having a dalliance on the side would certaily be a distraction from what is an extremely demanding job. A job that we as voters elected them to do. It all ties together. It speaks to their character and character matters to me as it should to all of you. Think about all this and post a comment. I would love to hear from some of you.

Death of an Icon???

OK Michael Jackson is dead. We all know that by now. I grew up thrilled by Thriller. I had the album(you all do know what an album is right?). I listened to it endlessly, I moon walked, and I knew every word to every song. As I got older MJ got stranger. He became a white guy, he spent his money trying to build his own version of Disneyland and of course the trial for the alleged molestation of a 12 year old boy. Oh yeah let us not forget the baby dangling off a hotel balcony incident. This is someone who was bound to have a tragic end to his sad life. Now, here is where I am really frustrated with our whole country.
We have people in Iran protesting a rigged election and being killed by their own government. We have soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan dying to insure we all stay safe. We have over 10% unemployment in parts of our own country. We have a president and congress working every day to strip away our freedoms and liberties. We are in a world of hurt here people!! Yet the only thing I hear about 24/7 is the death of a pop star. How pathetic. I was listening to the radio and I heard a woman quoted as saying
"Michael Jackson was so great. He was like Obama. I cannot believe he is dead."
Are you kidding me????? We have a problem with priorities in the country when this man's death gets more air time than any of the things I mentioned above. What has happened to us? Are we still the greatest country in the world? I am starting to question this notion. These people we seem to worship are not role models. They are not to be revered or honored. They are sad and tragic figures that do not deserve the coverage or attention we give them in life or death. It is time that we get real about what matters and what we are teaching our children by endlessly pondering the death of a man like MJ.
